Multiple bands and performers say a Salem concert promoter owes them thousands of dollars for shows at the Grand Theatre in downtown Salem.

To The Ceiling Entertainment, owned by brothers Alex and Andrew Hussey, was removed from the historic High Street venue the week of Aug. 25 after building owner Meduri Farms said the company owed more than $100,000 in back rent, KGW News reported Wednesday, Sept. 2.

As we reported Monday, Aug. 31, the Grand Theatre's box office window was papered up and its billboards empty following the company's exit.

Now named performers are detailing what they lost.

Portland-based band Amerakin Overdose played the Grand Theatre on Aug. 8 under a door deal: 75% of ticket sales to the performers, 25% to the promoter, with $250 off the top for the sound engineer. About 180 tickets were sold across three bands, according to vocalist Cody Perez.

Perez told KGW the band expected to settle up that night. Instead, they were told the promoters were out of town.

"We said, 'That's kind of funny. You should have the money already in hand,'" Perez said.

The band says it is owed roughly $2,600. Perez has since filed a small claims case and a police report against To The Ceiling Entertainment.

Portland Wrestling owner and promoter Matthew Merz told KGW he is owed $2,496 after a check from the June show bounced and a $500-a-week payment plan stalled in July. Merz said the problem stretches back to November.

Meduri Farms, which has owned the Grand Theatre building since 2015, told KGW that To The Ceiling had been a tenant for about two years and was given a deadline to bring its rent current. The company failed to meet it.

Meduri Farms said it does not yet know what will happen to the venue. The company will need to find a new tenant to promote shows.

KGW reported that calls, emails and texts to both Alex and Andrew Hussey were not returned. The Salem Reporter reported Aug. 31 that To The Ceiling Entertainment was pursuing bankruptcy.

Perez said Amerakin Overdose would still perform at the Grand Theatre but would not work with To The Ceiling again and would require a guaranteed payment before any future show.
