The Marion County Sheriff's Office notified the public Wednesday, Sept. 2, that a registered sex offender is living at 1880 Center St. NE in Salem.

Matthew E. Waterbury, 44, was convicted of Sex Abuse II involving an adult female victim who was unknown to him, according to the sheriff's office notification. Based on his criminal history, Waterbury has been classified at a level indicating a potential to reoffend.

Waterbury is on post-prison supervision for two separate charges: Felon in Possession of a Weapon and Delivery of Heroin.

His supervision began Feb. 2 and runs through Feb. 1, 2028.

The sheriff's office described him as a white male, 5 feet 11 inches tall, 180 pounds, with blonde hair and hazel eyes.

Court-ordered conditions bar Waterbury from contact with minors, from frequenting places where minors gather and from using or possessing intoxicating substances.

The notification was issued under Oregon Revised Statute 163A.215 (ORS 163A.215), which authorizes Community Corrections to release offender information when doing so serves public safety.

The sheriff's office said the notification is meant to support public awareness, not to increase fear. The notification did not specify the date or jurisdiction of Waterbury's Sex Abuse II conviction.
