The Marion County Sheriff's Office search for a missing camper in the Mt. Jefferson Wilderness entered its third day on Thursday, July 9, with no resolution announced.
John Nelson, 68, was reported overdue by a family friend shortly after noon on July 7, after failing to return from a camping trip near Russell Lake in Jefferson Park. The Sheriff's Office launched a search and rescue operation the same day. SAR volunteers and partner agencies remain active in the area.
Nelson is described as 6 feet 1 inch tall, approximately 200 pounds, last seen wearing a light blue jacket, jeans, and carrying a light blue day pack.
As of early Thursday morning, the Sheriff's Office had posted no update beyond its original Tuesday press release. No outcome has been confirmed.
The agency is asking anyone who hiked or camped near Russell Lake in recent days to think back on whether they saw Nelson or noticed anything that could help searchers. The public is asked not to enter the search area to allow teams to operate safely.
Anyone with information should call the Marion County Dispatch Center at 503-588-5032.
