The Marion County Fair opens July 9, giving Salem families a four-day run of live music, livestock shows, and $3 admission on opening day at the Oregon State Fairgrounds.
Fair Event Coordinator Jill Ingalls said organizers built each day with its own personality. More than 400 4-H and FFA youth have registered to show animals and compete, according to the Salem Business Journal.
Main Stage acts include Radio Ready, The Junebugs, DJ Avelanche, Justin Lawrence, and Casey Donahew.
The fair runs through July 12. Hours are noon to 10 p.m. Thursday, 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Seniors, active-duty military, veterans, first responders, and their families get in free Thursday. Sunday is Family Day, with free admission for children 12 and under and a pop-up exhibit from the AC Gilbert House. Children 5 and under are free all four days. Full schedule and tickets: MarionCountyFair.FUN.
Pentacle Theatre's production of Neil Simon's "Rumors," directed by Robert Barnett, enters its final stretch with evening performances at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, July 8–11, plus matinees at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 11, and Sunday, July 12.
The show closes Friday, July 18, after additional 7:30 p.m. performances July 16–18.
Barnett told Press Play Salem the cast rehearsed long, unbroken run-throughs because the script has no scene breaks until intermission. "I just want them to laugh out loud as much as they can," he said. "In a world that has such divisions in it, and such terrible things happening, sometimes we just need an escape."
Pentacle Theatre is at 324 52nd Ave. NW. Tickets: pentacletheatre.org.
