Sam Brentano, the sitting Marion County treasurer, is running unopposed on the Nov. 3 ballot, according to The Ballot Brief voter guide and Statesman Journal election data.

Brentano, 74, is a Republican who was sworn in as treasurer in January 2023, according to The Ballot Brief, citing the county's candidate list. He was the only candidate to file for the seat.

While some Marion County races are contested this cycle, the treasurer's race will appear on ballots with Brentano's name alone. He has not reported any campaign fundraising for the race, according to Statesman Journal election data. No campaign website was found as of September, The Ballot Brief reported.

Long record in county government

Brentano grew up in Woodburn and St. Paul. He attended Kennedy High School in Mt. Angel before graduating from Woodburn High School, then earned a bachelor's degree in business from Oregon State University, according to Statesman Journal election data.

His public service stretches back decades. He served as mayor of Sublimity from 1982 to 1993. He also served as assistant chief of the Sublimity Fire Department through 1995 and as a volunteer emergency medical technician.

In the private sector, Brentano was president and general manager of United Disposal Service through 2001. He later served as a Marion County commissioner for 17 years, focusing on solid waste, emergency management and transportation, according to the Marion County Board of Commissioners news site.
